The Otter Project

Sea otters were listed as a threatened species largely out of concern for the potential impacts a single, catastrophic oil spill can have on the struggling California sea otter population. This fear was substantiated by the tragic loss of thousands of sea otters as a result of the Exxon Valdez spill in Prince William Sound, Alaska. The Otter Project considers oil a serious threat to sea otters.

We continue to focus our efforts on opposing offshore oil drilling, addressing vessel traffic management, oil spill prevention and response, and monitoring for other potential oil issues.
